The modern research lifecycle is a battle against complexity. At Bowhead Research Lab, we help biopharmaceutical teams cut through it—turning fragmented biological data into clear, actionable insight.
Our mission is to accelerate and de-risk therapeutic development by combining biological expertise with computational intelligence. We collaborate with biopharma partners to explore new targets, validate mechanisms, and design more efficient clinical studies.
The Lab is led by Dr. Francisco Diaz-Mitoma, a clinician–scientist with decades of experience translating discovery into licensed vaccines and therapeutics. His leadership spans more than fifty clinical trials and nine approved vaccines, bringing practical insight to every stage of development.
Our Pilot Lab in Ottawa provides a foundation for collaborative discovery and early-stage validation. The facility operates with the support of the National Research Council of Canada and the University of Ottawa, giving partners access to advanced instrumentation, shared research infrastructure, and flexible lab space for joint projects.
At the core of our work is the Bowhead AI Engine, a clinically validated system that connects molecular, clinical, and real-world data.
Map relationships between genes, proteins, and delivery pathways.
Extract insight from literature, clinical data, and unstructured notes.
Ensures compliance with HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR, maintaining full data integrity and ownership.
Every computational output is refined through an expert-in-the-loop process, ensuring predictions are biologically sound and clinically relevant.
Bowhead Research Lab provides a connected suite of services bridging discovery and clinical readiness:
Multi-omics and literature-driven analysis to identify gene and protein targets with strong translational evidence.
Support for payload design, vector optimization, and tissue-specific delivery assessment using in-vitro and organoid systems.
Patient-derived models predicting therapeutic response and resistance with higher fidelity than traditional assays.
Identification and functional validation of biomarkers to guide patient selection and trial design.
Data-driven protocol optimization and AI-assisted recruitment through the Bowhead Navigator platform.
Each stage builds on the previous one, creating a continuous feedback loop from computational prediction to biological and clinical validation.
We operate as a flexible extension of our partners' R&D teams—offering project-based engagements or full development collaborations. Our focus is on scientific clarity, transparent communication, and measurable progress toward clinical success.
Every therapeutic challenge is unique.
